Birth Injury | Compensation Claims

Birth injury compensation claims can vary and arise as a result of substandard medical treatment during birth, including mismanagement during the birth resulting in the baby being deprived of oxygen resulting in cerebral palsy. Cerebral Palsy can be caused where the baby has been starved of oxygen during labour. Unfortunately the life-long effects of cerebral palsy on the baby and the family can be devastating and can have enormous emotional and financial implications as the baby may have physical and intellectual disabilities and the baby may need 24 hour care and rehabilitation for the rest of his or her life.

Birth injuries can tragically result in a stillbirth as a result of mismanagement during the birth.

Other types of mismanagement can arise where there is shoulder dystocia during the birth, resulting in a brachial plexus injury. Injuries to the mother can arise as a result of complications during a caesarean section, forceps/vacuum delivery or with regards to an episiotomy.
